London freezes the goods and movement of those accused of a multi-billion dollar embezzlement and conspiracy against Iran.

The British government has imposed sanctions on an Iran-linked network accused of plotting in the UK and elsewhere.

The Foreign Office has issued travel bans, asset freezes and director bans on nine people and three entities, linked to “hostile activities directed by Iran”.

They are accused of conspiring and providing financial aid to destabilize Britain and its allies on behalf of Iran.

Those sentenced include suspected members and associates of the Zindashti terror group, who are accused of threatening, organizing or attacking people and property in Britain and elsewhere.

Naji Ibrahim Sharifi-Zindashti, the alleged leader of the network, was accepted by Britain and the United States in 2024. Authorities identified him at the time as the leader of a global drug trafficking ring under the leadership of Iran’s Ministry of Intelligence and Security.

The European Union followed suit last year.

London, Washington and Brussels have all accused the network of killing and kidnapping people, targeting opponents of the Iranian government.

Others sanctioned by the UK include five members of the Zarringhalam family, who are accused of facilitating money laundering.

Three of the families were sanctioned by the United States last year for their role in Iranian banking. Washington said it spent billions of dollars through companies in the UAE and Hong Kong.

Two exchange houses connected to the family network, the Berelian Exchange and the GCM Exchange, were also selected.

Others named are Turkish citizen Ekrem Oztunc, Azerbaijan’s Namiq Salifov and Iran’s Nihat Abdul Kadir Asan. All are charged with threatening, planning or committing acts of violence in the UK or elsewhere.

The names are the latest in a series of actions Britain has taken against Iran in recent months. They follow separate sanctions imposed in February targeting members of Iran’s security forces for brutally suppressing widespread protests earlier this year.
