FCC Receives Multiple Complaints About Bad Bunny’s ‘Vulgar’ Super Bowl Performance

Even in the face of evil Bunny went to the field, his halftime Super Bowl career caused conflict, especially from MAGA influencers upset by the Puerto Rican star’s comments against Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the fact that he sings in Spanish.

After the show, which was watched by more than 128 million people, those complaints continued, but mostly focused on the disgusting things that the actress had seen.

Following a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request from WIRED, the Federal Communications Commission, which oversees communications including broadcasting, released 2,155 complaints the agency received about the Super Bowl, most of which were about half of the show. Most of the complaints focused on the fact that the show was not in English, but a small number of people were offended by the vulgarity of the Spanish voice. Some were not happy with the dancing they saw on the screen.

One viewer from Leighton, Alabama wrote: “Bad Bunny played these songs without holding back. Dancers joined in.” twerking-a lot of grinding, hip thrusting, and fingering to compare lyrics (sic). The cameras captured close-ups of the contact and hip movements, which intensified the situation. “

Some viewers complained that their kids heard Spanish and didn’t like the kids hearing Bad Bunny’s voice. Also, as one viewer from Indiana, he said that even though he doesn’t speak Spanish, he looked at the translation of the words later and was disappointed.

An analysis of the FCC’s complaints about the Bad Bunny halftime show by WIRED found that the top three complaining states were Texas, Florida, and California, in that order. Four hundred ninety-seven complaints contained the word “vulgar,” 735 contained the word “Spanish,” and 919 contained the name Bad Bunny.

The number of complaints is low compared to the number of people who watched the historic show, which featured Lady Gaga, a wedding, and a cameo from Maria Antonia Cay, the dear owner at Brooklyn’s Caribbean Social Club. All told, the performance has been viewed more than 4 billion times on radio, YouTube, and social media, According to The NFL, Apple Music, and Roc Nation, which produces halftime.

One complaint mentioned how the singers were from other countries. “There are restrictions on my TV,” said a viewer from Raleigh, North Carolina. I don’t understand Spanish, but I think I heard the wrong language.” (Bad Bunny is Puerto Rican, and a US citizen.)

Just days after Bad Bunny’s performance in February, Republican lawmakers asked the FCC to check it out The NFL and NBC, which broadcast the event. FCC Commissioner Anna Gomez later requested records of the game, which aired on NBC, and found no violations. “I checked them carefully, and I did not find any violation of our rules and there is no reason to trouble the broadcasters during the matches,” he said. Gomez told Reuters.

Representatives for Bad Bunny and NBC did not immediately respond to emails seeking comment.

About 30 complaints say two men were seen dancing with each other during the performance. “On top of the inappropriate music and lyrics, there were also images of homosexuality on the computer and other inappropriate sexual content,” wrote one person from Winstead, Connecticut. “This is not appropriate and it is not good when there are CHILDREN involved.”

“I watched this at my local Dave and Busters and I saw a lot of parents visibly confused about half way through the show and many leaving the theater until the show was over,” lamented one viewer from Incline Village, Nevada.

Thirty complaints about the Super Bowl halftime show have President Trump’s famous Social Truth sign “thank you for your interest in this matter.”

The Super Bowl halftime game is often the subject of FCC complaints, often involving traditional talk shows. Although Bad Bunny’s complaint appears to reflect the United States’ immigration and ICE narrative, The Kendrick Lamar show last year they received 125 complaints, most of them speculative the lack of white behavior in the middle of the right wing cry at DEI.
