French star Kylian Mbappe once again caused controversy in the corridors of Real Madrid when he posted a picture on his official social media pages of him training at Valdebebas Sports City while the team had a day off after losing El Clasico to Barcelona (2-0), a defeat that officially ended this season’s league.
Mbappe’s behavior comes in light of growing strain in his relationship with Real’s fans, who expressed their displeasure at his absence from El Clasico despite his participation in group training in the days leading up to the match.
His recent outings with Spanish actress Ester Exposito, in addition to posting on Instagram during the game, have also drawn a wave of sharp criticism from Royals fans.
Mbappe posted a “story” in which he cheered on Real Madrid while the team was two goals behind Barcelona, which some saw as inappropriate behavior given the difficult circumstances the club is going through.
For his part, coach Alvaro Arbeloa has increased the uncertainty surrounding the player’s future this season, after he doubted in his post-match press conference that he could return before the end of the season.
“There are two weeks left and depending on the pain he is suffering now, we will see if he can play or not. I was hoping that he would be 100% fit and able to play from the start.”
With just 3 matches left for Real Madrid against Real Oviedo, Sevilla and Athletic Bilbao, doubts are growing as to whether or not Mbappe will return to action this season.
