Watch Bayern Munich star Harry Kane break his perfect penalty shootout record against Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga yesterday, Saturday.
Kane missed a penalty in the 36th minute of Bayern’s 1-0 win and Michael Ollis scored the winner.
The incident sparked huge controversy after new footage showed a rival player scratching the penalty spot before missing the kick.
According to The Sun newspaper, cameras caught Wolfsburg’s Yanuel Belosyan stepping on the penalty spot as Harry Kane stepped forward to take it.
Seconds later, the England captain slipped and fired high and wide to end a run of 24 consecutive penalties.
Lost Harry KaneThe 32-year-old balanced on his steady foot before curling the ball over the crossbar.
Replays later showed France Under-21 international Belosian was twice fouled before the penalty was awarded.
When the Wolfsburg defender was asked afterwards if he had deliberately tried to sabotage the area, he replied: “Yeah, that was easy.”
Teammate Patrick Wimmer admitted the struggling hosts are prepared to use “dirty tricks” in their fight to avoid the drop.
Bayern Munich young player Tom Bischoff criticized the incident, saying: “I know that Wolfsburg is fighting to stay in the league, but this behavior was unnecessary. The rules of fair play must always apply.
While “Bavaria” coach Vincent Kompany said: “What do you expect them to do? Do they have to clap when we score for a Wolfsburg player to do that? Of course he shouldn’t have done that. But I understand that too.”
