Shocking irony. England are one game away from Argentina’s lead

UEFA restricts the English … and FIFA gives a golden opportunity to the Latin trio

Despite being one of the host nations for Euro 2028, England will not automatically qualify for the finals, in a controversial paradox compared to what happened to Argentina at the 2030 World Cup.

While England must qualify to qualify for the tournament on home soil, Argentina have guaranteed their place at the 2030 World Cup just by playing one match in the tournament’s centenary.

According to the newspaper “The sun“Britain, this irony comes as millions of fans signed a petition calling for Argentina, the 2022 World Cup champions in Qatar, to be banned from the upcoming tournaments, only to be surprised that their place in the 2030 World Cup has already been decided four years later, even though it will play just one opening match.

As is known, the finals of the 2030 World Cup will be hosted by Spain, Portugal and Morocco, whose direct qualification is guaranteed. However, the biggest controversy lies in giving Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay automatic seats as well, simply because they hosted their teams’ opening matches to mark the World Cup’s centenary.

On the other hand, England’s name is not included in the qualifying tournament for the Euro 2028 tournament, which it is co-hosting with Scotland, Wales and the Republic of Ireland, where 24 teams will be included.

The matches of the tournament are scheduled to be held at Wembley, Tottenham, Al-Ittihad, Everton’s Hill Dickinson, St. James’s Park and Villa Park.

The host country of the main tournaments is usually given a direct qualification card, as was the case with the United States, Canada and Mexico for the 2026 World Cup, but the new qualification rules approved by the European Football Association (UEFA) impose a different path.

Under the new system, England will be drawn into one of 12 groups of four or five teams, along with 50 other European teams, and will not enjoy any preferential treatment other than not being drawn in the same group as the other host nations.

The winners of the 12 groups, along with 20 of the 24 teams along with the eight best second-placed teams, qualify directly for the finals.

As for the remaining four spots, UEFA has allocated two of them to the host nations in case they fail to qualify through the qualifying round. This means that if any of the other host nations qualify, England will be guaranteed a place even without finishing first or second, as a place is reserved for the host nation.

However, England’s failure to qualify in first or second place will raise serious questions about their level, especially as they are considered one of the strongest teams in the world, making them almost certain to get a place anyway.

If three or four host nations fail to qualify through the qualifying round, only the top two of them will receive the two spots allocated to the hosts.

Argentina’s direct qualification to the 2030 World Cup, despite widespread criticism of its behavior on and off the pitch, remains a source of great displeasure among football followers given the comparison to what England are forced to do in their continental championship.
