Pep on Everton. They gave a real English performance
The head coach of “Manchester City” Pep Guardiola praised the game shown by his team against “Everton” on Monday evening in the match of the 35th round of the English Premier League.
Manchester City ended the first half 1-0 up, but Everton scored three goals in a row in the second half before the visitors scored twice in the dying minutes to end the thrilling match in a 3-3 draw.
Manchester City kept their hopes in the Premier League race alive with this fateful draw after extending their lead to 71 points and a delayed match, trailing leaders Arsenal on 76 points with three rounds to go.
“We played a great game,” Guardiola told Sky Sports after the game. We played exceptionally well in the first half. Indeed, we did very well. In the second half they raised their game and maybe we weren’t that excited and then of course we conceded a goal. On their return they gave a very spirited, true English performance in battle. But overall we did very well.”
He said about the first half. “It was more difficult for them to penetrate our defense than it was for us to penetrate their defense. We were great. We got to the goal line a lot, shot and had chances and it wasn’t easy because they play very well in defense with ten men behind the ball and then they attack with Betool and Dewsbury.”
He continued. “We’re taking the break point and we’re going to keep going until the race is over.”
Regarding Everton defender Michael Keane’s interference with City winger Jeremy Doku, he said: “Analysts can talk about that.”
Guardiola explained about the second half. “Overall, we were good with our style of play. We got a spot on the left wing and Doku was great.”
“Unfortunately we couldn’t take the chances, especially the way we did in the first half. Facing Everton away from home is always difficult.
When asked if he is satisfied with this return, Pep said: “It’s better than losing because it shows the quality of their team.”
Referring to the competition for the title, he concluded his statements. “The issue is not in our hands, it was like that before, not now, we still have meetings, we will see what will happen.”
