in France Kylian Mbappe scored his 22nd goal at the World Cup to break the all-time goalscoring record and cement his legacy as the world’s all-time leading scorer when he played his final game of the tournament against England.
England will leave the World Cup in third place after beating France 6-4 in a thrilling bronze medal match in Miami on Saturday.
The 2018 champions got off to a poor start to the World Cup with a 4-0 half-time deficit as they struggled against a much-changed England side.
Mbappe, the 27-year-old France captain, took the lead and struck in the 48th minute to revive his team and move level with Lionel Messi for most goals at the World Cup (21) and most in competitions so far (9).
The inspired France saw Bradley Barcola strike after six minutes before Mbappe struck again in the 66th minute to become the world’s top scorer with 22 and the game’s highest with 10.
Mbappe is back to defend his Golden Boot title, which he and Messi traded between each other throughout the competition.
The 39-year-old Argentinian, who is playing his final World Cup, will have the chance to complete the Mbappe award when his side face Spain in the final on Sunday.
Elsewhere in the game, Ousmane Dembele scored his sixth World Cup goal and France’s fourth and final goal against England, seeing off Bukayo Saka’s hat-trick.
Jude Bellingham became England’s top scorer of the tournament as he scored his seventh goal and sixth for the Three Lions to take them to the World Cup final.
