The Spanish star is going to crown his career in the final of the World Cup
Rumors over the future of Spaniard Rodry continue, but his remarkable performance at the 2026 World Cup has not changed Real Madrid’s stance on the Manchester City star.
Rodri hasn’t been at his best for Manchester City since returning from a long-term injury, but he regained his brilliance at the World Cup, where he led the Spanish national team’s midfield with a standout performance.
The former Villarreal and Atletico Madrid man caught the eye against France after he imposed his control in midfield, surpassing the trio of Manu Kone, Aurelien Chouamine and Adrien Rabiot in both tackles and passing quality.
Real Madrid have no intention of making a move for Rodri in the current summer transfer window, Athletic have revealed, although the 30-year-old is open to a move to Real while the latter focus on other targets in the transfer market.
Former Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola expected Rodri to return to his World Cup best before the tournament, and that has already started to happen as he heads into the World Cup final against Argentina in peak form.
The Athletic add that Real Madrid will not make a bid for the player, even though there is a clear need in midfield following the retirement of German Toni Kroos, as the trio of Federico Valverde, Aurelien Choumini and Eduardo Camavinga have failed to compensate for his role as a late playmaker capable of controlling the tempo and attack.
The report states that Rodri is considered one of the best players in the world in this position when he is fully fit due to his leadership on the pitch, tactical acumen and quality of passing, given that ignoring the opportunity to sign him if he is indeed available could prove to be a costly decision for Royals.
