On Wednesday, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth made a surprise move to announce that the US military will begin requiring all active duty and reserve personnel aged 30 or older to be tested for testosterone deficiency. The evaluation will be done during the annual health check. Those under the age of 30 can also be tested if requested.
In a short video posted on social networksHegseth explained to the military that the tests are the drugs that can be followed up with the goal of “optimizing your performance, your resilience, and your long-term health.” Although he says that what happened was not about “advancement” and that members could refuse treatment, Hegseth said that the tests and treatments that could be done were to “restore and enhance” skills, protect “longevity,” and “make sure that you have the natural foundation that you need to continue the fight.”
But does testosterone testing and treatment “optimize” our “warriors”? Will it help many of them live longer? Should everyone be tested and treated?
