Paris ‘too hot’ as western Europe hits heat wave

The BBC’s Paris correspondent Hugh Schofield described people scurrying for shade in mid-August in the French capital, where temperatures reached 34C (93.2F) on Tuesday.

France’s national weather service said a “heat dome” over western Europe was bringing average temperatures of 10 to 15 degrees Celsius in May.

One tourist told the BBC he chose to visit Paris in May to avoid the summer months.

‘We know it’s really bad in June, July, August, so I thought it would be a bit easier if we came in May,’ said Brent from Australia.
